The pandemic did not stop brewing veterans—Juno Choi, Garth Blomberg, and Josh Voeltz—along with head brewer Aaron Herman from launching Arbeiter Brewing Co. in the old Harriet Brewing space off Minnehaha Avenue and Lake Street. Arbeiter is German for “worker” as the owners “are adamant that they want the neighborhood to define the brewery, not the other way around.” Community engagement and interacting with people face-to-face is part of their ethos and therefore, experimentation defines their approach. Their goal is to be “fluid in terms of the styles that we tend to brew, based on what our community wants….versus us dictating what they should be drinking,” says Choi. Community engagement and experimentation are invaluable ingredients for any recipe that propels working toward racial and social justice and eliminating disparities.
