For over 102 years, Franklin Theater on 1021 E. Franklin Av.has been the setting of silent movies, art exhibits, and photography classes. Since 2018, the building is the new home of Project for Pride in Living (PPL)’s training programs. PPL’s mission is to build “the hope, assets, and self-reliance of individuals and families who have lower incomes by providing transformative affordable housing and career readiness services.” One may wonder why focus on both housing and jobs? It is only by having the skills to get and keep a job that one can create long-term stability and disrupt the cycle of poverty and inequality that disproportionately impacts workers and communities of color. With over 1,599 housing units and 13,000 people served, PPL contributes to the creation of healthy and connected communities in which everyone can thrive.
