Summit-University neighborhood has 23.7% of its population below poverty, 11.2% lack a high school diploma, and 25.3% speak a language other than English at home. The Hubbs Center for Lifelong Learning is operated by Saint Paul Public Schools’ Community Education Department, providing educational services to adults who want to improve their basic skills, earn a GED, prepare for employment or post-secondary education, or learn English. Named after Ronald M. Hubbs, a visionary philanthropist in Minnesota, the center uses languages such as Spanish, Somali, Hmong, and Karen to connect with the diverse communities it serves. To make it easier for all to attend, the center provides on-site childcare.
