Since 2007, Northside Healing Space has served as “community-driven solution to healing the trauma that exists in North Minneapolis….rooted in deep community wisdom, ancient healing practices, foundational beliefs of the African American church, and participatory research, specifically around the issue of commercial sexual exploitation and its corrosive connections to enslavement and community.” MN’s sexual exploitation covers every corner of the state and in a University of Minnesota study, youth of all gender identities and races reported sexual exploitation. Some groups however, were more likely to be affected by trading sex and sexual exploitation, such as youth in juvenile correctional facilities, foster care and unstable housing, which overlap with greater numbers of African American youth.
