The use of fencing to bolster school security is seen by proponents as helping with protection while those opposing fencing argue that it can contribute to an unpleasant environment for children and may not be fully effective in deterring security breaches. The black wire fence of the Lake Country School, about 13 blocks from 38th and Chicago where George Floyd was killed, is covered with student artwork calling for justice. Instead of keeping people apart, this fence is used as a medium for coming together.
