The intersection of two streets, 38th and Chicago, allows for the creation of a circle of healing, a memorial to a life lost and a place to come together in unity and envision a new beginning. Universal symbols, circles have been employed from prehistoric times in Stonehenge to traditional Aqals in Somalia. A circle is a literal manifestation of equality–there is noone “at the head of a table” in a circle, and therefore, the term is also used to denote coming together over common interests. Giving us a physical and visual translation of the “We are all in this together” motto, George Floyd’s memorial paves the way forward.
